Desert sunrise to hiking to Silver Lake Flat Reservoir in Utah’s snow

Kona and I spent every moment of a 3-day weekend getting outdoors and enjoying the different landscapes Utah has to offer.
Our first outing took us out west into Utah’s vast desert wilderness.
we went seeking a beautiful sunrise and the rejuvenating or peaceful feeling that comes with the quiet nothingness of Utah’s desert landscape.

One thing I love about Utah.. is that within an hour drive you can go from the dry desert up to snow covered mountains.

Kona and I hiked up to Silver Lake Flat Reservoir. Which you will find up Utah’s American Fork canyon.
Hiking this trail in the winter while it is covered in snow is a favorite of ours. Yes, you have to work for it a little bit more than summer time. But your reward is getting the mountains a little bit more to yourself than the crowded summer months.

Hiking from Tibble Fork Reservoir up to Silver Lake Flat Reservoir is one of the most kid friendly and dog friendly hikes you can do in Utah. It is doable and enjoyable during all seasons of the year.
Dogs are allowed. Natural run off water is available for filtering and drinking. And there is enough open space for dogs and kids to play. Along with enough open space in the area for dispersed tent camping.

When most people visit American Fork canyon in Utah.. they just drive the Alpine Loop or visit Tibble Fork Reservoir.
It’s amazing, that when you are willing to put a few good miles of hiking in, how you discover that these mountains have much more to offer.
I will keep showing you hiking trails and camping spots like this (in Utah) that are worth it every time.
